In the world of AI, website development has never been easier. But will it really deliver the customer experience that you and your customers need? In this blog post, we’ll dive into the pros and cons of using Wix ADI for your next website.
What is Wix ADI, Anyway?
Wix is a web development and hosting platform that helps create beautiful and functional websites. The company offers a traditional Wix Editor, a website creation and hosting platform, as well as Wix ADI, which is powered by automated intelligence.
Wix ADI claims to deliver a website in minutes. It's not the newest AI product on the market (it launched in 2016), but thanks to AI’s continual evolution, Wix ADI is certainly making waves.
Let’s take a deeper dive to see if their claim is legit.
Benefits of an AI-Generated Website
It’s “free.”
We get it. When you start a business, you take a big financial risk, so anything cheap sounds appealing. (But then again, so is a Crunchwrap Supreme, and we all know how that can leave us feeling.)
When you design a Wix ADI website, there’s no upfront design cost. (You’re not paying a professional designer, copywriter or user-experience professional.) It is a lot cheaper than a custom website. Just make sure to factor the monthly hosting fee into your marketing budget.
It’s quick.
Yes, it really does take minutes to generate a website with Wix ADI. With their variety of templates and drag and drop features, your new website can get up and running in no time.
It looks nice.
After you choose what kind of website you want, you can choose from a variety of styles and colors and then click “generate.” Automated design has been out for a while and it’s getting better. But if you have even the slightest experience with AI, then you already know that sometimes it’s spot on, other times, it’s terrible and most times, it’s a mix of the two.
Drawbacks of an AI-Generated Website
Quick, easy and beautiful? Are there any real drawbacks? Well ... nothing is as easy as it appears. Here are the drawbacks as we see them.
You give up control.
Have you read the fine print? When Wix ADI creates a website, it holds the exclusive rights to the intellectual properties, technology designs, photos and content. That’s kind of a big deal.
Your designs are limited.
Similar to any templated web development site, when you use ai-generated design, you’re going to run into limitations. Maybe they don’t have a distinctive look, or maybe you want to change a section of the page (or “block” as we call it).
But when you design a webpage with Wix ADI, you can’t just make it happen. If you don’t get something you love on the first output, you have to go through the entire input process again.
If you decide you want to change the automated design later, you’ll need to switch to Wix Editor and build it from scratch again.
You app-solutely can’t do it all.
While the app selection has expanded since 2016, you get what you pay for. Sixteen apps might seem sufficient, at the time this article was written, but if you need more flexibility, then you’ll need to customize.

Sometimes you just need a website to prove you’re alive. If that’s you—and if you don’t care about having full creative and functional control, then Wix ADI might be a good solution for you.
But even with AI, there’s no easy button to get past the hard work that’s needed for a website that looks as good as it performs. If you’re looking for a little more, tell us exactly what you want, and we’ll deliver a website that is as unique as your business’s brand.
