Visitor Experience: Getting the Conversion
On the Web, there are two types of sites: "No" sites and "Yes" sites.
"No" sites contain a lot of grammatical, navigational, and design flaws, usually taking five minutes to load thanks to the flashing rainbows and shooting stars. Basically, you take one look at it at think "No, absolutely not." (See a "No" site in action.)
Then, ah, there are "Yes" sites. The sites of this category load quickly and look professional. They communicate a capable and trustworthy tone and won't send visitors running for the competition. Upon viewing, visitors will think, "Yes, finally. Where have you been all my life?"
Run through this checklist on your site to see if it's sending the right message:
- Can you tell, in 4 seconds or less, what your company does?
- Can you tell why your company or product is better than the competition?
- Can you access the details about your product or service in less than 3 or 4 clicks?
- Is your site asking for the sale (conversion) by making it easy to add to cart or fill out a form?
- Is the information in your site convincing and authoritative?
- Does your website convey the same image as your offline branding?
