POP Setup Instructions for Outlook Express
Generic E-mail Setup for Outlook Express
Most versions of outlook express have a similar manner of configuring e-mail to check POP3 servers at The Karcher Group.Outlook express stores messages in a local information store, typically named inbox.dbx, which can be easily be backed up as part of a disaster recovery plan.The instructions below represent a typical setup for Outlook Express 6.0 (OE6).
After starting OE6,access e-mail account settings by clicking Tools > Accounts…
If setting OE6 up for the first time, go to step #3, if manipulating an existing account, go to step #6
Click on Add, then Mail…, and answer the following questions as indicated:
Display Name:type in the name that will be displayed in the From field of an outgoing message.
E-mail address: type in the name of the e-mail address that other people use to send you a message.
Incoming Mail Server: Defaulted (and should remain) POP3
Incoming mail Server: Type in the name of the server which will be mail.YOURDOMAIN.com (or .org), i.e., mail.thekarchergroup.com.
Outgoing Mail Server:same as above
Account name: Type in the user name provided by the excellent support staff of TKG.
Password: Type in the password supplied by TKG.
Log on SPA: should not be checked
Once returning to the Internet Accounts dialog box, there are some final settings that need to be completed, accessed through the Properties Button (highlight the new mail connection and select PROPERTIES).
On the SERVERS tab: Under Outgoing Mail Server, ensure that the check box “My server requires authentication” is checked.
On the ADVANCED tab:Under Outgoing mail (SMTP), the server port number will need changed to 587 (only applicable if internet connection is through SBC/AT&T DSL).
Confirm (click OK, or close) all open windows, you mail setup is complete. END
Select the applicable mail account, typically the account identified by (default) in the “Type” column.
With the existing mail connection highlighted, click on the Properties button.
Change the following fields as indicated:
