Ask these questions before hiring a web developer!

Will my site completely validate based on w3c standards?

The only acceptable answer (in our humble opinion):

Yes. To ensure the best quality and cleanest code possible, our developers hand code each page of each and every website we build. We avoid the temptation of WYSIWYG programs, outsourcing our code to oversees or having inexperienced developers produce our sites. It costs a bit more to build sites this way, but it's the only way to ensure all of the benefits of css and markup that validates, which are:

  • Cross browser compatibility
  • Basic accessibility
  • Proper implementation and use of css
  • Proper use of html
  • Easier long term maintenance

What steps do you take to ensure 100% search engine index-ability?

We build dynamic sites in such a way that a search engine, more importantly a user, never sees a parameter in any URLs of any sites we build. We're also sure to avoid troubling issues like session IDs in URLs, requiring cookies for navigation, multiple URLs to the same pages, etc. We do this because we know that these are the kinds of things, when overlooked, that can trip up a search engine or give the appearance of duplicate content.

We accomplish this by building every site from the ground up, with search engine optimization in mind early in the process. We don't take an application (content management systems for instance) that someone else has built, and try to modify it. There are many reasons for this, but regarding search engine index-ability, this is the best way to ensure that all of the SEO best practices are built into our sites and we avoid all pitfalls.

How will my site perform on mobile devices?

We build sites based on current W3C standards. That means that every page will be accessible via mobile devices, screen readers, etc. They may not be optimized and designed specifically for those purposes, however they will be fully accessible to them.

In an ideal situation, we have the ability to design mobile versions of pages with an appropriate style sheet (design) and tailored content for the mobile user. Mobile users browse websites very differently than desktop users. We have even built into our content management system the ability to generate mobile versions of every page on a site, on the fly.
